NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle husband and wife died Tuesday as a result of their car plunging into the waters off of Hudson Park. The New Rochelle Police Department said Ralph Simpson and Arlene Simpson, both 74 and New Rochelle residents, were pulled out of the waters of Echo Bay.

A press release from the New Rochelle Police Department said a call was received at 2:54 p.m. Tuesday about a vehicle crashing through the railing and going into the water at Hudson Park.

New Rochelle police divers responded and pulled the driver, Ralph Simpson, from the car. He was unconscious and unresponsive, authorities said. He was treated by paramedics and New Rochelle Fire Department personnel at the scene, before being transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

While recovering the vehicle from the water, police divers found the body of Arlene Simpson.

The discovery of her body during the initial recovery was hampered by the lack of visibility in the water of Echo Bay and where in the vehicle the body was located, police said.
