Historic New Rochelle Rowing Club Building Could be Torn Down
The building has suffered extensive damage over the years, particularly after Hurricane Sandy.

The New Rochelle Rowing Club building, once deemed historic by city officials, could soon be torn down, in part because the structure has fallen into severe disrepair.
The City Council is scheduled to vote tonight whether to approve a demolition contract with Capital Industries Corp. for a little over $120,000 to raze the structure.
According to New Rochelle Commissioner of Development Luiz C. Aragon and other officials, the building should come down because it is in an “unsafe condition.”

But the move does not sit well with members of the rowing club, reports The Journal News, who would like to save the building and repair it.
“They had it in mind they were going to rip the place down a couple of years ago (before the storm),” former club president Rick Bauer told The Journal News. “This is a big charade.”
