'The Interview' to Screen in Westchester

One theater in the county will show the controversial film this weekend.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers will show the film “The Interview,” starting Christmas Day, after Sony Pictures Entertainment decided to release the controversial film to a limited number of theaters. The theater is the only one in Westchester County to screen the film, according to the movie’s Facebook page.

The controversial film directed by Seth Rogan satirizes North Korea’s despot, Kim Jong-un, which led to a massive retaliation effort by forces in the country. Hackers allegedly recruited and sponsored by the North Korean government broke into Sony Picture Entertainment’s computer system and stole data, including copies of unreleased movies, internal documents and e-mails to use as blackmail in an effort to block the movie’s release.

Along with threats to major movie theater chains who were planning on screening the film, Sony apparently buckled last week and cancelled the film’s release.

A nationwide outcry followed as people were stunned to learn that a tyrant could convince an American production company to cancel a movie and lose tens of millions.
