The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) has named The College of New Rochelle junior forward Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY/Hun School of Princeton) its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Ellis had a memorable week for The College of New Rochelle, averaging 17.0 points, 19.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.5 steals and 0.8 blocks per game in helping lead the Blue Angels to a perfect 4-0 week, including two victories in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament that secured the first conference tournament championship for CNR. For her efforts, Ellis earned the Tournament Most Valuable Player Award. Her four double-doubles on the week upped her season total to 19, which ranks her second in the nation (through games of 2/16).
After posting 18 points, 19 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks in the win over Yeshiva that clinched a spot in the HVIAC Tournament, she tallied 18 points, 22 rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Blue Angels defeated conference rival St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn for the first time since January 17, 2000, a stretch of 16 consecutive games. Matching up against defending USCAA Division II National Champion Albany Pharmacy in the HVIAC Semifinals, Ellis helped CNR defeat the Panthers for the first time in the history of the series, scoring 20 points while pulling down 25 caroms and adding six assists. In the championship game, the Blue Angels defeated St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn for the second time in four days, with Ellis scoring 12 points while adding 10 rebounds. In addition to her ranking in double-double, she also ranks second in NCAA Division III in rebounds per game
