NEW ROCHELLE, NY — It's sometimes easy to forget that New Rochelle is a very special place. Fortunately, New Rochelle Public Library's local history librarian Larry Sheldon works hard to remind us of this fact every once in a while.

He will be presenting "New Rochelle and the Arts: An Artists Community" this Saturday at noon.

"Playwrights, artists, actors, musicians and dancers settled in New Rochelle during the early 20th century due to the proximity of New York City with its galleries, Broadway and publishing, and the dependable commuter trains that connected New Rochelle with the city," said Sheldon. "With the founding of the New Rochelle Art Association in 1912 and its close relationship to the New Rochelle Public Library, this community continues to be vital today. This presentation will focus on the development of this community and some of its key players and activities."
