Daylight Main St. Shooting Wounds 1 On Sidewalk Downtown New Rochelle

Shots rang out on a heavily trafficked sidewalk shortly after 1 p.m. A gunshot victim was rushed to the hospital with "multiple" wounds.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Gunfire on a busy New Rochelle sidewalk sent one victim to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Shortly after 1 p.m., New Rochelle police received a call of shots being fired in front of 345 Main Street. Responding officers discovered that there was one victim at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was said to be conscious and alert. It is believed the wounded person was on the public sidewalk in front of the Peter Bracey apartments, an affordable housing community better known as "The Bracey House."

The residential building is near the heart of the Monroe College campus.

Officers gave first aid until New Rochelle Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived and continued life-saving measures.

The victim, a 22-year-old male from Mt. Vernon, was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. He is listed as being in stable condition. His name is not being released by authorities at this time.

New Rochelle Police Department detectives said they believe that the victim was the intended target of the shooter.
