New Rochelle Announces Two Lakes, Pond Safe for Ice Skating, Hockey

Parks and rec staff have posted white signs with red lettering at the three, and designated the safe areas with ropes and barricades.

The New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department has inspected two local lakes and one pond and deemed the three safe for ice skating and playing hockey, officials announced Thursday.

“Due to persistent below freezing temperatures, the following lakes and ponds have been inspected and designated by Park staff to open for skating within the roped areas effective today, January 15,” the department wrote in a statement.

Paine Lake, South Lake (nearest Eastchester Road) at Huguenot Park/Twin Lakes-NRHS and Carpenter’s Pond have all been opened for skating.
