New Rochelle Cancels Fireworks For July 4

The fireworks cancellation comes after an outdoor concert series was axed for the season.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — There will be no public July 4 fireworks in New Rochelle this year. The City of New Rochelle canceled the "Spark the Sound" fireworks display due to health and safety concerns and continued restrictions on public gatherings because of the new coronavirus outbreak.

"As disappointing as it is to cancel one of our most beloved events, the welfare of our community is paramount," said Parks Commissioner Bill Zimmermann.

The announcement follows the cancellation of the 2020 Summer Sounds Concert Series at the Hudson Park Bandshell by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts last month.
