New Rochelle Cops Charge Mt Vernon Building Commish After Crash

Police say he was driving drunk.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police accuse Daniel Jones, the Mount Vernon building commissioner, of driving drunk and smashing up his SUV. Officers were called to a crash at the Glen Island Center on Pelham Road, New Rochelle Police Capt. Cosmo Costa said.

Officers found Jones in his wrecked 2017 Ford Explorer at 6:45 p.m., police said. His blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. No one was injured.

The 46-year-old Brooklyn resident's license was suspended, police said.

He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree, DWI first offense and aggravated DWI.

The City of Mount Vernon released the following statement:

“The City of Mount Vernon takes the reported incident very seriously and is conducting a full investigation into the circumstances. He is receiving the appropriate counseling and care following last night’s incident as well as recent incidents of cyber-bullying and harassment directed at him, which resulted in his filing a police report.”
