New Rochelle Deputy Fire Chief Cheered After Coronavirus Battle
Deputy Fire Chief John Reed had been fighting the disease for almost two months.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle Fire Department deputy chief, in the hospital for almost two months after becoming infected with the new coronavirus, received cheers and applause from fellow first responders when he was wheeled out of Danbury Hospital on a gurney Friday. John Reed, who lives in Dutchess County, will be recovering in a rehab facility.
He was hospitalized with COVID-19 April 2, the Journal News reported.
Reed became infected with the virus in late March. Earlier that month, New Rochelle was thrust into the spotlight when it was declared the first coronavirus hotspot country.
