New Rochelle Firefighters Save Woman From Burning House
The heat was so intense it melted siding on the house next door.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Called to Chatsworth Place Sunday afternoon, New Rochelle firefighters rescued a woman trapped on the second floor of a burning home. They also prevented the house next door from going up in flames.
The department was called at about 3:50 p.m. and when crews arrived, they found heavy fire conditions in the first floor front of the two-and-a-half-story wood frame house, plus another house in danger about 8-10 feet away, said Fire Chief Andy Sandor.
"There was a lady on the second floor and there was no way she could get out the front door," Sandor said. "Crews had to bring a ground ladder to the rear of the house and bring her down. She made it out fine."
