New Rochelle Man to Run for Westchester DA

Other candidates have announced their intentions to take over from Janet DiFiore.

A New Rochelle man has thrown his hat into the ring to run for Westchester District Attorney.

Republican Mitch Benson, 56, a Nassau County prosecutor, quit his job so he can run for the job, according to an article at lohud.com.

Former Westchester prosecutor Bruce Bendish, 69, of White Plains, also a Republican, already announced his intention to seek the DA job, lohud.com said.

Bendish will kick off his campaign for Westchester District Attorney at a press conference Thursday, Feb 18 at 11 a.m. in the Larchmont Room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel located at 66 Hale Ave. in White Plains.

George Fufidio, a Democrat and a former Westchester prosecutor, also announced his intention to run for the position.

Lohud.com said each party will decide on a candidate by sometime in April, with primaries in September, if needed. The election will be in January.

DiFiore was sworn in Feb, 8 as the Chief Judge of New York and of the New York State Court of Appeals.

She is the state’s second female judge, following Chief Judge Judith Kaye.

DiFiore was Westchester County District Attorney for 10 years.
