New Rochelle Man In Stable Condition After Overnight Stabbing

The victim was able to describe his attacker and the getaway car, leading police to arrest a Yonkers man on felony charges.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police say an argument turned violent overnight sending a New Rochelle man to the hospital.

Shortly before 2 a.m. this morning, the New Rochelle Police Department received a call from a man who told 911 operators that he had just been stabbed. The victim was able to give dispatchers a description of the suspect and the vehicle the suspect fled in. After hanging up, the victim went to the hospital on his own. New Rochelle police officers were able to quickly locate and arrest a suspect at the intersection of North Ave. and Garden St.

Officers got in contact with the victim, a 23-year-old New Rochelle resident, who later underwent surgery and was listed as being in stable condition.

New Rochelle Police Department detectives located the crime scene as well as the knife used in the crime, near North Ave. and Clinton Place. The cause of the dispute that led to the stabbing seems to have stemmed from a previous altercation between the victim and the suspect.

Pete Ortega, 35, of Yonkers, was arrested and charged with felony assault in the second degree, felony criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
