New Rochelle Police Make Arrest For Attempted Murder
Police said a man had been shot twice in the chest Friday.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Mount Vernon man was arrested after being accused of shooting another man. The New Rochelle Police Department said Richard Hayes, 23, of Mount Vernon, was charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.
Police said, shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, officers went to a Union Avenue apartment for a report of a man who had been shot in the chest.
The 27-year-old man, who lived in the apartment, suffered two gunshot wounds to his chest.

Officers treated the wounds until EMS personnel arrived. He was taken to an area hospital and was treated for his injuries. The medical staff said they were not life-threatening.
Authorities said the shooting was not a random act. Both the victim and Hayes knew each other.

New Rochelle detectives identified Hayes as the suspect, and he was arrested without incident Saturday around 8:20 p.m. on Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers. Yonkers police assisted in the arrest.
