Funeral Services Announced For New Rochelle Police Officer

Kathleen O'Connor, 56, was a 20-year veteran of the department.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Funeral services have been announced for the the 20-year veteran of the New Rochelle Police Department who died Aug. 16. Kathleen O’Connor-Funigiello was 56 when she died of a 9/11-related illness.

Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19 at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place in New Rochelle.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20 at Church of the Holy Family, 83 Clove Rd. in New Rochelle.

Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

O’Connor-Funigiello is survived by her husband Anthony Funigiello, her siblings Brigid O’Connor, Mary (Bill) Jordan, Patrck (Jean) O’Connor, Collen (Stew) MacGonigle and Amy (David) Rivera; her step-children Frank Funigiello, Elaine Muller and Ann Marie Nicoletti, and nieces and nephews.

She was a former New Rochelle resident, living in Connecticut at the time of her death.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 20-year veteran of the New Rochelle Police Department has died as a result of a 9/11-related illness. Police Office Kathleen O’Connor, 56, died Aug. 16 after a long illness, police officials said.

O’Connor began her career in January 1998 and was most recently assigned as the warrant officer in the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

After the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, O’Connor went to Ground Zero to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts.

She volunteered her time to help other first responders sift through the debris piles.

Department officials said O’Connor was “an exemplary police officer, and will be sorely missed by those who knew her.”

She is survived by her husband, Anthony Funigiello, and her family.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a future time.
