New Year, New Writer

Hi, My name is Alyson and I am now a 6th grader at Isaac Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle.  My brother Robert Steks (really annoying) is now at New Rochelle High School.  I am taking over his "My Middle School Life" blogging and will exceed his success tremendously.  Let's get a few things straight.  First of all, I am not a girly-girl.  If you are expecting fashion advice and nail polish talk, stop reading now.

I take trombone.  There is this girl, Julia, in trombone class and she really likes fashion.  She was telling me and two other trombonists(?), Jane and Bella, she was explaining how her bracelet originally cost $42 and she got it for $4.  She went on to explain how she got her expensive designer jacket for very little money and other items of clothing.  (I forget all the details.)  We didn't know what to think, we never heard anything like this.  By the way, she also speaks three languages, including English, and plays five other instruments.

I think my school supplies are haunted.  Today in Mr.Rowllings class, I could not find my pencil sharpener.  But I turned around and there on the blackboard shelf in the back there was my sharpener.  This has happened three times so far.  And another time in Mr. Rowllings class, I always keep my calculator in the front pocket of my backpack.  Today, my calculator was in the main section of my backpack.  My color pencils, which I keep in my locker, were in my backpack.  I have no idea how these things are happening.

At my school we have a magazine fundraiser.  There are prizes for orders.  My goal originally had been to sell enough magazines to get a chick to donate to a family in Africa, but I missed the deadline.  Part of the reason that I missed the deadline is that my grandfather likes magazines a lot, but he never throws them out.  I was waiting for his order.  But, my grandmother refused to let him order any.  I finally handed in my order and picked up my prizes.  No chicks for me (or the family in Africa), unfortunately.  But I did get a "Weepull", which is a pom-pom with sunglasses that has something to do with music.  I also got some sort of necklace with a place for a key on the end, a stuffed Siberian husky and three mustaches, which I gave to a girl named Skylar.  Then I won a raffle, that I didn't even know I was in, and won the "Thirst Extinguisher", which is a really big water bottle (1.5 liter) that looks like a fire extinguisher.  It says on it "Not to put out fires".  Pretty original!  Works great!

In my social studies class we got an extra credit assignment to make a Paper-Mache globe.  Of course I decided to do it.  My mom and I tried and kind of failed.  Too much flour, not enough water.  The balloon popped and the flour and water glue is still on the kitchen cabinets, windows and walls.  It got hard pretty quickly and is hard to scrape off.  Then my dad helped me instead.  We made a perfect Paper-Mache globe in like 15 minutes.  Later in the year we are going to mummify a turkey in class.  Not too excited about that.  Mummify a turkey!  I'm worried about the smell.  The project takes all year.

The biggest thing that has happened in 6th grade so far is that I found a stunned bird (with my friends) at lunch. One girl put it in her lunch box. Then we handed it to the security guard. The security guard then let it free.   It flew off.  We were absolutely amazed.  Later that day the principal said our names on the announcements kind of like in congratulations, but then reminded everyone not to touch wild animals. Really?

Bye folks!
