Popular Learn To Sew Program Returns To New Rochelle Library

This program is designed for beginners and will teach how to thread, operate and troubleshoot a sewing machine while making projects.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — There are certain skills everyone should have. Cooking, changing a tire and sewing top the list and the library is once again this year lending a hand with the latter.

The New Rochelle Public Library announced that its popular Learn to Sew program will be back again this year.

This program is designed for beginners and will teach participants how to thread, operate and troubleshoot a sewing machine while making several small projects, including a personal pin cushion, a simple tote bag, and a journaling bookmark.

The three-week series will take place on April 27, May 4 and May 11.

  • For adults, the class will be from 10 a.m. - noon. Register here.
  • For children ages 9-11, the class will be from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Register here.

No prior sewing experience is required, and participants must not have previously taken this class.

A valid NRPL card is required to register with the account in good standing, and patrons must commit to attending all three sessions.

According to the library, the goals of the program are to create opportunities for shared experiences among New Rochelle's diverse population, capitalize on the city's intrinsic artistic and DIY communities, and build essential skills that may be used for entrepreneurship, self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.

Registration for the free program is required. Space is limited. All materials and supplies will be provided. Classes will take place in the community gallery at the New Rochelle Public Library, located at 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle.
