Spring is in the Air at NRRC and TRC

Perhaps mother nature isn't so sure, but spring is here and the New Rochelle Racquet Club and The Rock Club couldn't wait to celebrate.

March 21, just a day into the season, NRRC and TRC invited members and friends to join them in celebrating at their Spring Fling event.

Kids sprang into action upon entering the clubs. Each child was given a name tag and placed in a group to ensure everyone had the chance to participate in all the party had to offer. Most of the kids have had some experience in both sports, making the introduction short and leaving maximum time for fun.

Over on the tennis side, kids got to break out of their usual routine and romp around with their favorite pro. Giacomo Milito, a front desk worker at NRRC, envies the kids at play as he watches them on the courts.

“I’m not a tennis player myself, but they just make it look so fun.” Milito said. “They’re playing a game with hula hoops, who would have thought.”

TRC switched it up with blacklight climbing and a giant ladder challenge. Jessica Cronin, 11, tested her strengths at the rock wall. Through it all, rock climbing was undoubtedly her favorite part of the night.

“Rock climbing was extremely awesome!” she said.

Jesus Palacios, a newly employed member of TRC, enjoyed seeing the bright, excited faces walk through the door.

“I had to redirect some of the kids to the racquet club for sign in,” Palacios said. “I liked that all of them looked really excited.”

Palacios started working at the rock club at the end of September. Working the party was his first real chance to see all the kids coming together to hang out and have fun. Palacios believes the party is a great way for the kids in the rock climbing community to network.

“The party allows them to interact with one another in a way they might not have the chance to otherwise.” Palacios said. “It really lets the kids take down a guard they might have up in another situation like school.”

Even the few beginner climbers did exceptionally well in Palacios’ opinion. The fun had by the climbers are no question thanks to the friendly instructors at both clubs. Palacios said the mood of the instructors really sets the tone for the whole event.

All in all, climber and tennis player alike had a blast. Justin Fox, 11, can not wait until the next event. Justin didn’t miss out on any of the fun. Although pizza was a bonus, Justin spent the duration of the party bouncing in between clubs to soak up all the fun and games before the nights end.

“Loved it!” Justin said. “Played a lot of fun games.”

To wrap up the night, the clubs gave out goodie bags to take home to mom and dad. The sweet staff sent partygoers packing with rock candy and chocolate tennis balls.
