Stolen Car Tip Leads To Arrests, Illegal Gun On Main Street: NRPD

An alert from the Real Time Crime Center led police to a stolen car at a gas station near I-95 where 2 VA women were arrested, cops said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Of all the places on I-95 to make a pit stop, two suspects in a reportedly stolen car picked the wrong exit in the wrong city and the wrong county to refuel.

On Saturday, just before 2 p.m., the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center notified New Rochelle police that a possibly stolen vehicle had entered the city near Main Street and I-95. New Rochelle police then canvassed the area and spotted the vehicle in the gas station at 819 Main Street. Officers saw two women in the vehicle and approached to investigate.

Both women were soon placed under arrest. An unlicensed 9mm handgun was also found on one of the women.

Zena Johnson, 26, of Dale City, Virginia and Sharney Stewart, 22, of Woodbridge, Virginia were each charged with criminal possession of stolen property 4th degree (motor vehicle) and criminal possession of stolen property 3rd degree (value over $3000). Additionally, Johnson was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree (loaded firearm) and criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree (ammo feeding device).
