NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An early morning raid not only took illegal "ghost guns" off the streets, but the operation also put a stop to a source of the troublesome weapons often used in violent crime, according to officials.

On Wednesday, at around 7:30 a.m., New Rochelle Police Department detectives were assisted by detectives from the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in carrying out a search warrant for ghost guns in a New Rochelle home.

The sting was the result of a monthslong effort by the agencies after investigators received information that a suspect at the home had been building ghost guns. It was part of a continuing initiative to combat illegal handguns in New Rochelle as well as throughout Westchester County.
