Health & Fitness

Thanks for the Props

It has been a whole year since my last morning show on WVOX.  It does not seem that long at all.  Since that time, I have been editing my book, No Guarantees, a memoir about my experience with clinical depression, writing two columns a week, serving as an MC for some events, and dabbling in a little local TV.   I should add that I have cleaned out my garage, rediscovered late night entertainment, and actually grew some vegetables in my backyard.

The biggest surprise though has been the way I have been treated as I travel around New Rochelle.  Most recently, I have served as the face of New Rochelle TV for 325th Anniversary activities and during the Thanksgiving Day parade.  I also hosted the Ester’s Aid gala.  In each of those gigs many  of you came up to me, remembering my work on WVOX, asking me when and if I was coming back, or just telling me how much you liked the show.  As well, I have experienced similar feedback traveling around town gathering information for my writing.

Thank you.

I did not expect to be remembered by so many or, for that matter, after so much time away.  I am grateful for the recognition, and I will tell you why:  I loved each and every show I did on WVOX, and put all I had into it.  It was the highpoint of my professional and creative life.  While I always wanted to do the radio and got to live my dream, I never expected to fall in love with the listeners or the city they lived in.  Well I did.  So when people come up to me, it feels like affection returned and adds to the satisfaction of what I did for all those years.

Not once, not for a single second, did I not feel that I was lucky.  Dong the morning show was always special; it was never just a job.

So thank you, again.

Soon I will be starting a weekly TV show on cable access.  I will keep you informed.  It will be sweet to come home again.
