Three Organizations Select Jah-Leah Ellis Women's Basketball Player of the Week

AD3I, HVIAC and MBWA each name Jah-Leah Ellis Women's Basketball Player of the Week

The College of New Rochelle’s Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY/Hun School of Princeton) has been named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by three organizations, it was announced Tuesday. The senior forward has earned Women’s Divisions II-III Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA), and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) and the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).

The honors from MBWA and HVIAC are milestones for CNR, as no Blue Angel has ever received MBWA Player of the Week honors twice, while Ellis sets a new CNR standard for HVIAV Player of the Week nods, as this marks her seventh this season. AD3I has named the forward its Player of the Week four times in the 2014-15 season.

Ellis was a dominant force for The College of New Rochelle last week, tallying three double-doubles while averaging 17.7 points, 19.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.0 blocks over three games, including two critical conference wins that kept the Blue Angels tied atop the conference standings. In a senior night win over Yeshiva, the forward tallied 21 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Against Berkeley College, Ellis recorded her 16th double-double of the season, scoring 19 points while recording her fourth 20+ rebound game of the season, pulling down 24 caroms while adding three assists and two steals.

The College of New Rochelle is next in action on Tuesday, February 17, traveling to St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn for a HVIAC tilt slated to begin at 7:00 PM. The matchup is a preview of the HVIAC Tournament Semifinals, which will pit the same two teams against each other on Saturday, February 21 at Albany College of Pharmacy.
