Ulster Teen Accused Of Trespassing On Tracks, Injuring Deputy

Police said the teen was illegally on CSX property in the town of Esopus.

KINGSTON, NY — A 16-year-old Kingston resident was accused of trespassing on railroad tracks in an off-road vehicle. The Ulster County Sheriff's Office said the teen was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree governmental administration and second-degree reckless endangerment.

The sheriff's office said, around 7 p.m. Sunday, deputies and members of the New York State Police investigated a trespassing complaint on CSX property in the Connelly area of the town of Esopus.

The deputies and troopers said they saw a UTV going north alongside the railroad tracks. It was driven by the 16-year-old.

After stopping the off-road vehicle, he took off when approached and struck one of the deputies, injuring him. The deputy was treated at a local hospital and was released.

The teen fled from the area but was later located. He was arrested and released with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Esopus Court on a later date.

His name was withheld due to possible eligibility for youthful offender status.
