Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Horse Program Side Walker

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities somewhere in the Hudson Valley.

Each week Patch will be highlighting a volunteer opportunity — or two — in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — in perhaps a way you didn't consider before.

And if you have some need for volunteers, be sure to let us know by emailing michael.woyton@patch.com.

This week we are putting the spotlight on a couple of opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

First up, Topfield Equestrian Center is looking for volunteers for its therapeutic riding lessons. The center serves individuals and groups ages 4 and up who are living with various challenges and ability levels to learn horseback-riding skills.

To become a Horse Program Side Walker, you don't have to have horse experience. Organizers said this is the perfect opportunity for those who would like to work alongside riders and help them learn new riding skills.

The therapeutic riding lessons run year-round in Cold Spring.

Our second volunteer opportunity comes out of New Rochelle. One Change at a Time is seeking volunteers for its "Bridging Generations" program, which helps promote intergenerational relationships by bringing together the elderly and youth through therapeutic recreation, education and social activities.

The program takes place at nursing homes, assisted living facilities and community centers.
