Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Meals-On-Wheels, Music Fest

Every week, Patch will spotlight a volunteer opportunity or two somewhere in the Hudson Valley.

Each week Patch will be highlighting a volunteer opportunity — or two or three — in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — in perhaps a way you didn't consider before.

And if you have some need for volunteers, be sure to let us know by emailing michael.woyton@patch.com.

This week we are putting the spotlight on two chances to help local communities.

First up, you could be listening to great music while help out at the third annual Brewster Music Festival.

It's scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8, with rain date of Sunday, June 9. It will take place at Wells Park, 98 Oak St. in Brewster.

Our second volunteer opportunity is Meals-on-Wheels of New Rochelle. As they said in their brochure, "It's More Than A Meal… It's a Lifeline of Friendship."

The organization has provided more than 360,000 meals during the last 30-plus years, and delivers 35 to 45 meals a day to recipients on their roster.

Meals-on-Wheels delivers a hot midday meal, with an optional sandwich and salad for a cold supper to homebound individuals of any age who are alone and without anyone in the immediate area to assist with meal preparation on a regular basis. They also provide meals on a short-term basis for those transitioning from rehab to home after hospitalization, accident or illness.

To volunteer, call them at 914-576-3865 or email them.

Donations would also be appreciated. Mail them to Meals-on-Wheels of New Rochelle, 50 Pintard Ave., New Rochelle NY 10801 or visit their website.
