Woman Dead in Mount Vernon Jail Cell: Said She Felt Ill

A 42-year-old was found dead in a holding cell. Police said she had several chronic health problems.

UPDATE: The 42-year-old who died in police custody complained of feeling bad and was taken to a hospital but sent back, according to FIOS1news.

Raynette Turner was under arrest for shoplifting. Police said she had had bariatric surgery and had a history of hypertension.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office is assisting the Mount Vernon Police in investigating the death of a 44- year-old Mount Vernon woman who was in custody.

She was found unresponsive yesterday afternoon awaiting arraignment for Petty Larceny, said spokesman Lucian Chalfen.

An autopsy is pending, he said.
