Drunken Driver With Cocaine Crashes Car, Flees Scene: Cops

A Southold Town Police K-9 unit helped to locate the man on the North Fork after the crash, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY — A Jamesport man was arrested after he drove while intoxicated, crashed the car and tried to flee, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place Saturday at 8:57 p.m. on Sound Avenue in Mattituck when Nicholas Soullas, 41, was involved in the two-car crash and fled.

Southold Town Police K-9 Officer Frank Mele and his canine Hudzin found Soullas in a nearby yard; he was found to be intoxicated and in possession of cocaine and was arrested, police said.

Soullas was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense; refusal to take a breath test; leaving the scene of an accident; and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Soullas was transported to Southold Town Police headquarters where he was processed and held overnight pending morning arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
