Former Candidate To Bring Business Owners' Concerns to Board

William Swiskey plans to speak at Monday night's Greenport village board meeting.

William Swiskey, who recently lost a bid for a seat on the Greenport village board by a narrow margin, said he planned to speak at Monday night's village board meeting to address concerns raised by area merchants.

Swiskey said he was slated to ask the village board about whether or not they would consider hiring a part-time traffic control officer to help manage the "parking problem in the downtown area."

Another question involved whether the number of trash cans in the village could be increased to handle the overflow of litter during the busy summer months.

Another idea Swiskey hoped to pitch to the board would be hiring high school or college students a number of days a week to empty trash receptacles and clean; perhap, Swiskey said, the young people might be employees of Mitchell Park Marina assigned other tasks.

Finally, Swiskey said he planned to ask the board about the possibility of scheduling a general informaton public hearing on the village's "parking problem," in May to formulate a summer plan.
