Lifestyle website Thrillist thinks a few Long Island towns are underrated when it comes to summer appeal.

Skip the hours of traffic for the overcrowded and overpriced South Fork and plan a trip to these eight Long Island spots instead, the site suggests.

Visiting Greenport on the North Fork, the website says, is a must for anyone wanting a taste of an authentic seaport village.

Here are some fun activities you can do in Greenport, according to Thrillist:

• Visit the East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation, honoring the area's rich maritime tradition.
• Check out the working blacksmith, housed in a replica of the original building from the 1870s.
• Shop in boutiques and antiques stores on streets near Mitchell Park.
• Enjoy steamers dockside at Claudio's Clam Bar
• Svavor dinner at the Frisky Oyster.
• Sip a cocktail at Brix & Rye.
