Little Miss, Mister Mattituck 2021 Crowned At Street Fair

Siblings Charlize and Jacob Lucarelli took home the titles of Miss and Mister Mattituck at the annual street fair Saturday.

MATTITUCK, NY — A new Miss and Mister Mattituck were crowned at the annual Mattituck Street Fair Saturday.

Taking home the titles for 2021 were sister and brother Charlize and Jacob Lucarelli of Mattituck; Charlize is 9 and Jacob, 6. The event took place at the Mattituck Street Fair on Old Sound Ave., at the intersection of Love Lane.

The 2019 winners of the event, Julianna Witczak and Gavin Springer, handed over their titles after representing Mattituck for an extra year due to the pandemic.

Charlize, who said it felt "amazing" to win, said her favorite part of summer is swimming in the pool and doing cannonballs to get her brother drenched. Her favorite animals are owls, because of their big eyes. When she gets older, Charlize said she'd like to be a chef and farmer, so she can grow fresh produce and integrate the fare into her recipes.

Jacob said he also enjoys splashing his sister in the pool and said he'd like to "beat her in a competition."

"You're on!" Charlize said as the crowd laughed.

Jacob's favorite animal is the elephant, and said he'd like to help save them, as people are killing the species for money. When he grows up, he would like to join the Navy, he said.

Also competing were Abigail O'Brien, 8, Lilabeth Dantes, 6, Gabriella Gennaro, Charlie Trant, 7, Kiernan Lademann, 7, and Gabriel Farley, 7.

Each of the children said they loved the going to the beach and pool with family during the summr. Abigail said she loves cats and wants to be an oncologist, to help find a cure for cancer and help her mother's friend, who is battling the disease. Lilabeth said she enjoys making sand castles and playing with her friends on the beach; she also loves cats and wants to work in cat rescue one day.

Gabriella loves dogs and wants to be a veterinarian; Charles said he loves kayaking at camp and exploring lakes, enjoys dogs, and wants to be an astronaut so he "can discover something on a different planet that no one has discovered."

Kiernan loves going underwater in his pool and his favorite animal is the wolf pup. When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he said, "A survivor."

Gabriel loves swimming, doing handstands and front flips in the water, and loves wolves and dinosaurs; he'd like to be a scientist.

The event was hosted by the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce; Joanna Messina from the chamber emceed the event. Each contestant received a gift bag filled with goodies from local businesses.
