Local Congressman Introduces Legislation to Protect Long Island Sound
The bill is to ensure the Long Island Sound is protected for years

Local Congressman Lee Zeldin recently introduced a bi-partisan legislation to protect the Long Island Sound: The Long Island Sound Restoration and Stewardship Act.
“I am dedicated to improving Long Island waterways, which are critical assets to be preserved and protected,” Zeldin said in an e-mail.
According to Zeldin, the legislation is ’necessary’ to help protect the Long Island Sound.

“This bill ensures the Long Island Sound is protected for years to come with a water quality and shore restoration program and additional focus, oversight and coordination of federal activities related to the restoration of the Long Island Sound,” he said in an e-mail.
Earlier this month, the Long Island Sound received a ‘grade’ for the water quality from Eco Health Report Card.

The report card compared five water quality indicators including, dissolved oxygen, nitrogen, chlorophyll a, phosphorus and water clarity in five different sections of the sound.

- Western Narrows— F
- Eastern Narrows— D+
- Western Long Island Sound— B-
- Central Long Island Sound— B
- Eastern Long Island Sound— A
