Long Island Wine Council Taps Social Media To Ask About 'Bud Break'

A new contest has been unveiled on Facebook.

The Long Island Wine Council is utilizing social media to reach out to a grape-loving audience with new contests, promotions and events.

Most recently, the Long Island Wine Council launched a spring Facebook contest asking fans to guess what day they believe the first buds will appear in the region’s vines.

“Bud Break” mark a critical time in the North Fork's wine region as it heralds the start of the year’s vintage, Long Island Wine Council representatives stated.

Fans who guess the correct date can qualify to win a free tasting for two at one of the Wine Council’s member wineries.

The contest question went live on March 20, and will run through April 20 or “Bud Break,” whichever comes first.

The Long Island Wine Country Facebook page has already received a number of contest entries from both existing and new fans, contest organizers said Monday.

The plan is to continue with similar Facebook contests throughout the year.

The Long Island Wine Council has increased its presence across multiple social media channels in order to reach more fans of Long Island wine, contest organizers added; a new Pinterest site now lets visitors share pictures of their experiences in the region.
