Man Drowns In Long Island Sound: Police

BREAKING: Police have identified the man who lost his life Wednesday. Our hearts go out to his family.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — Police have identified an elderly man who died Wednesday after first responders rushed to try and save him from the Long Island Sound.

He was found off Duck Pond Point in Cutchogue on Wednesday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, Ellis Roudette, 84, of the Bronx died despite rescue attempts.

Southold Town Police responded to reports of a possible drowning at the Sound beach at 12:16 p.m.; after CPR was administered by police officers and members of the Cutchogue Fire Department, he was subsequently pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.

A similar tragedy was averted earlier in July when a kayaker was saved at the site and survived.
