Mattituck House Fire Leaves Two Men Injured
The fire is believed to have started in a dryer, officials at the scene said.
NORTH FORK, NY - At least one person was injured in a house fire in Mattituck Friday afternoon.
The fire, which is believed to have started in a dryer, broke out at 12:08 at a single-family home on Westphalia Road in Mattituck, left two men hurt. The homeowner, Christopher Durkin, 51, and his neighbor Robert Neudeck, 68, attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, police said.
Durkin had minor burns to the head and Neudeck suffered from smoke inhalation, police said.

Smoke was billowing from the structure as firefighters worked to control the fire.
Cutchogue, Mattituck and Jamesport Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Both men were taken to Peconic Bay Hospital by fire ambulance, police said.
