Motorcyclist Injured In Mattituck Crash: Police

The crash took place when a driver was trying to turn into Harbes Family Farm, police say. Traffic was at a standstill for hours, many say.

MATTITUCK, NY — Memorial Day weekend traffic was tied up for hours Saturday after a crash on Sound Avenue in Mattituck, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the crash took place around 10:40 a.m. outside Harbes Family Farm; Sound Avenue was closed between Aldrich Lane and Herricks Lane due to the incident. A motorcyclist on a 2020 blue Janus motorcycle was heading west on Sound Avenue when a 2017 gray Toyota Sienna traveling east tried to make a left-hand turn into Harbes farm, subsequently striking the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcyclist suffered an apparent leg injury and was treated by the Mattituck Fire Department; the Suffolk County Police Department's aviation unit transported the motorcyclist to the Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

The road was closed for about two hours while the crash was investigated, police said.

The crash is the second in the location in recent weeks: On Mother's Day, one person was seriously in a three-car rollover crash, police said.
