GREENPORT, NY — The Greenport community is coming together to help longtime friends and neighbors during their time of great sorrow.

A GoFundMe page, "Help the Purcell Family With Funeral Expenses," was created by Diana Jensen after lifetime Greenport resident Diane Purcell died recently.

"Many of you know and remember Diane," Jensen wrote. "Diane was a familiar face, working at the Arcade department store and then at IGA in Greenport for over 20 years as a cashier until health issues forced her to stop working several years ago."

She added: "As a cashier, I remember Diane, always pleasant and kind and enjoying a good chat with the customers who came through her line. As her neighbors of over 30 years, we remember her as a loving, dedicated wife and mother. A kind soul who loved to stop over and visit our family and who loved a good snuggle with our pup. Our family will greatly miss her."

Diane is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bernie Purcell, a longtime member of the Greenport Volunteer Fire Department, her children, Christine, Ryan, Brendan and Chelsa, and two grandchildren, Marguerite and Wyatt, she said.
