North Fork Fire Departments Battle House Fires in Frigid Weather

The incidents occurred earlier last week.

Several fire departments across Long Island have been busy responding to weather related emergencies after the record breaking cold temperatures and wind chills that hit Long Island recently.

In particular, local North Fork Departments have responded to two working house fires in the past several days, with the members of Cutchogue Fire Department assisting both the Southold and Greenport Fire Departments at fire scenes.

According to the Cutchogue Fire Department, on Monday, Feb. 16, volunteers were awoken at 4:10 a.m. to assist the Southold Fire Department at the scene of a working house fire on North Sea Drive in Southold.

The Southold Fire Department arrived to find a working fire in a home on the Long Island Sound Shoreline.

The Cutchogue Fire Department was requested to respond to the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team. (R.I.T.).

Southold Firefighters made quick work of the fire, confining damages to a small area.

Once on scene Cutchogue firefighters stood by for 45 minutes before being released.

The second fire occurred on Thursday, Feb. 19 at around 1 a.m. when a house fire was reported on Kaplan Avenue in Greenport.

Greenport Firefighters battled the blaze at the two story home.
