LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Islanders are set for some soggy weather and gusty winds Tuesday night and Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Jim Connolly, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office at Upton, said the rain is expected to begin about 7 p.m. in Nassau County Tuesday night and a few hours later across Suffolk and the East End; about a half inch is expected Tuesday night, he said.

On Wednesday, there's a chance of rain again, with about another half inch in the forecast, Connolly said. Winds are expected to pick up Wednesday, especially in the afternoon, with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour continuing throughout the evening, Connolly said.

While only some ponding is expected, storm impacts could be felt in the form of downed tree limbs and wires from the wind, Connolly said.

The storm is expected due to a low pressure system tracking across the Midwest and the Great Lakes to Canada, he said.

Temperatures are slated to be mild Tuesday night, in the mid-to-low 40s, and remain in the 50s Wednesday. However, a cold front moving in Wednesday night will send temperatures plunging to the 20s before they rise again to the 30s and 40s on Thursday and up to the 50s this weekend.
