Seniors Knit Hats For Newborns To Spotlight Heart Health

The hats were knitted as part of the "Go Red For Women" campaign to shed light on American Heart Month.

GREENPORT, NY — Seniors at Peconic Landing in Greenport knit and donated red hats for babies born in February at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

The volunteers knit the hats, which will be given to newborns at the hospital's Kathleen D. Allen Maternity Center, to celebrate the American Heart Association’s ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign, the hospital said.

The volunteers, along with American Heart Association Regional Director Barbara Poliwoda, delivered the hats on Wednesday; the gift was part of a program known as "Little Hats, Big Hearts," designed to empower mothers to live heart-healthy lives and to help their children do the same in honor of American Heart Month, which raises awareness of heart disease, the hospital said.
