Shirley Beach Reopens With Brand New Spray Pad

Despite some minor vandalism over the weekend that's been repaired, the beach is spiffed up and ready with a brand-new spray pad.

SHIRLEY, NY — Under sunny skies, with temps soaring — the perfect day to hit the surf — Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Dan Panico joined community members to cut the ribbon at the grand re-opening of Shirley Beach, which includes a brand-new spray pad.

Upgrades to the new and improved facility were made possible in part by a $250,000 grant secured by Senator Thomas Croci, Panico said.

Additional improvements include refurbished bathrooms, new benches and landscaping.

Although some residents took to social media over the weekend to express dismay over vandalism at the site, Panico said it's been addressed and cleaned up.

"The damage to the sod and mulch was small and cosmetic," he said. "We are working hard to raise the bar through every facet of local government. Whether it be our parks, demolishing blighted structures, or aggressively pursuing illegal and substandard housing. We are raising the bar in the tri-hamlet community and the quality of life for all."

After the grand opening Tuesday morning, Panico said, of the newly renovated Shirley Beach and the new spray pad, "Kids and families love it. In the coming weeks we will totally renovate the rest room building both inside and out to make it look great."
