Southold Town Prepares For Possible Nor'easter
"Take the forecast seriously, assume the worst case scenario and take all necessary steps to stay sheltered in your home." — Scott Russell

NORTH FORK, NY —With a powerful nor'easter possibly set to bury the East End in up to 18 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, Southold Town is taking steps to prepare.
Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said the emergency management committee is meeting Friday to discuss needs and strategy.
The town is already in regular contact with Suffolk County Emergency Management, he said. All town facilities, including the town's recreation center, will be closed all weekend. Town officials will also maintain regular contact with PSEG representatives to make sure any outages are attended to as quickly as possible, Russell said.

The supervisor urged caution: "My advice to the public is to take the forecast seriously, assume the worst case scenario — and take all necessary steps to stay sheltered in your home, possibly for an extended period of time."
Snow will overspread the area Friday night and potentially become moderate to heavy late at night into Saturday, before tapering off in the late afternoon/evening hours from west to east, the weather service says. The snow could fall at a rate of 1-2 inches an hour during the day Saturday.
