Trustee Reminds Residents Of Brush Pickup Guidelines

Brush pickup begins in Greenport on April 16.

Spring sunshine means brush pickup will begin again in the Village of Greenport -- and Trustee Mary Bess Phillips reminded residents on Monday to be aware of the guidelines.

According to Phillips, the brush pick-up guidelines were not currently posted on the village's website, so she sought to inform residents and remind them of the procedure.

Village crews will pick up only branches, leaves, and grass clippings. Paper, not plastic, bags will be picked up.

In addition, residents are asked not to place debris curbside until the Saturday before a scheduled pickup day. Leaving materials at the curb before that time can result in overloading of storm drains, creating issues for residents and preventing street sweepers from doing a complete job, according to village officials.

Any debris left by contractors, private tree crews or landscapers will not be picked up.

Violators may be ticketed, village officials said.

Brush pick-up will take place every other Tuesday, beginning on April 16, and again on April 30, May 14, May 28, June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, Aug. 6, Aug. 20, Sept. 3, Sept. 17, Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Oct. 29, Nov. 12 and Nov. 26. Final pickup for 2013 will take place on Dec. 10.
