East Northport Fire Dept to Hold September 11 Memorial Service

The service will remember the thousands of lives lost on this tragic day 14 years ago.

The East Northport Fire Department will hold a memorial service to remember the 3,000 lives lost and to support those whose lives were changed forever after the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy.

The special ceremony will include a 21-gun salute, the release of memorial doves, a helicopter flyover and more.

The East Northport Fire Department has vowed to “Never Forget” this tragic day 14 years ago.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the service to remember those lives that were taken at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

The ceremony will commence at 9:45 a.m. and an evening candlelight vigil will be held at 8 p.m.

Both ceremonies will be held on Friday, Sept. 11 at the East Northport Fire House, located at 1 Ninth Ave., at the 9/11 Memorial Monument set around an eight-foot, 8,000 pound steel beam from Ground Zero that the ENFD received from the Port Authority.

Firefighters will read the names of those who lost their lives and sirens will be sounded at the times of the collapse of the Twin Towers. Additionally, a memorial banner listing every victim’s name will be displayed on a fire engine.

The Northport High School Tights will sing the “National Anthem” and “America the Beautiful” and the Northport Pipe & Drum Band will perform “Amazing Grace”.

The ceremony will also feature a 21-gun salute from the Marine Corps League, the release of memorial doves and a helicopter flyover from the Suffolk County Police Department.
