Northport Cop Blotter: String Of Car Break-Ins, 1 Theft, Reported
Four car break-ins were reported, and sunglasses were stolen from one of the cars, police say. An arrest has not been made.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police reports for the Northport Village area from Feb. 24 through March 1.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Police responded to Scudder Avenue for a report of a woman yelling. An officer found her and her mother taping and measuring the parking spaces. The woman said she needed pictures for her insurance company related to a car crash that happened earlier. The officer told the woman she was blocking traffic and needed to leave, to which she agreed and left. The incident happened Feb. 24.
- Police responded to Ocean Avenue for a report of a suspicious vehicle with its lights on. An officer found the car in the parking lot of Northport Family Medicine and spoke with the woman, who said she was waiting for her daughter to exit an appointment. The incident happened on the evening of Feb. 24.
- Police responded to a pizzeria on Main Street for a report of four boys smoking marijuana. When the officer arrived, the four boys were seen walking east on Main Street carrying pizza boxes. The boys told the officer they were walking to their friend's house. No further action was necessary. The incident happened Feb. 25.
- A woman told police an unknown person entered her parked and unoccupied 2007 Honda sometime between noon Feb. 25 and 11 a.m. Feb. 26 on Seaview Terrace. She said some papers in the car were moved around, but nothing was missing.
- A woman went to headquarters to tell police an unknown person entered her parked and unoccupied 2019 Lincoln on Seaview Terrace. She told police the person entered her car between 5 p.m. Feb. 25 and 10:30 a.m. Feb. 26. She said a pair of prescription sunglasses worth $689 and a pair of non-prescription sunglasses worth $150 were stolen. A larceny affidavit was prepared.
- A woman went to headquarters to tell police an unknown person entered her parked and unoccupied 2017 Jeep on Seaview Terrace. She told police the person entered her car between 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 and 8 a.m. Feb. 26. She said the contents of her glove box were in disarray but nothing was stolen.
- A woman on Washington Place said an unknown person entered her parked and unoccupied 2017 Honda. She told police the person entered her car between 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 and 8 a.m. Feb. 26. The woman said the contents of her center console were in disarray, as well as the contents of a first aid kit, but nothing was stolen.
- A bat was flying around a Main Street home. The residents told police the bat was trapped in a bedroom. The officer searched the room but couldn't find the bat. The officer told the residents to contact an exterminator to set up traps and check for possible openings that could allow bats and other animals to enter through. The incident happened Feb. 26.
- Someone found a black wallet containing personal papers and ID on Main Street and turned it into police headquarters. The owner couldn't be reached by telephone. The officer responded to his home to leave a message. The wallet was held at the desk for the owner to come and get. The incident happened Feb. 27.
- Petty larceny was reported to the department; it happened on Seaview Avenue sometime between 5 p.m. Feb. 25 and 5:30 a.m. Feb. 26.
- Someone kicked the fence of Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary on Feb. 27. The officer spoke with both parties, and no damage was reported. The kicker agreed to leave the property and the complainant was satisfied.
- Police responded to James Street for a report of someone jumping on a vehicle. Police found the person, who said he tripped and used the car to steady himself. The person said he didn't need medical attention. The incident happened Feb. 27.
- There was a suspicious beeping noise inside a Vail Street home, but it turned out to be a cordless phone. The incident happened Feb. 27.
- A tenant was yelling at a landlord on Scudder Avenue the night of Feb. 28. The woman, the landlord, said when she went outside to smoke a cigarette and opened the door, she was startled by a known man sitting on the steps. The landlord said she confronted the man, but he immediately took off holding a plastic bag. The woman says before she entered her apartment, she was approached by her tenant who immediately accused her of stealing the plastic bag that contained food for that known man. Police determined there was no criminal activity, and both parties were satisfied.
- A woman went to headquarters to report a suspicious text message she received. She said an unknown person texted her, asking her to meet up and sent a link to an unknown website. The woman was told by police it was mostly likely spam, and she was advised to block the number. The incident happened Feb. 29.
- Police responded to Catherine Street for a fight involving multiple people on the night of March 1. Northport Police waited until enough Suffolk County Police Department officers showed up and the situation was under control.
