Northport High School Tour Choir members had the opportunity to perform with Broadway legend and Northport High School graduate Patti LuPone.

LuPone and the students performed two pieces on stage together during the performance “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda” at the Patchogue Theatre on Saturday, April 18. The performance featured songs from musicals which she could have played, should have played, did play and will play.

LuPone joined forces with the choir members to perform “Big Trouble in River City” from the Music Man and “Sleepy Man” from the Robber Bridegroom. Students then went on to sing a jazzy arrangement of “I’ve Got Rhythm.”

LuPone is a two-time Grammy Award winner and a two-time Tony Award winner.

Here’s what some students had to say about singing with LuPone:

  • “Singing with Patti LuPone was…so surreal. I couldn’t believe I was sharing the stage with a Broadway star who graduated from my high school. Musical theatre is something I want to pursue, so it was really an experience I will always remember,” said Mackenzie Germain.
  • “Patti LuPone is fearlessness, personified. It doesn’t matter who you are or where your life will take you — we all need to possess fearless bravado, and working with Ms. LuPone is a master class not only in the craft of performance, but also in fearlessness. The impact that this experience had on me will stay with me for the rest of my life,” Ainsley Bandrowski said.
