Northport Shed—Meds Event Collects 33 Pounds Of Drugs
The event encouraged residents to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medication.

The Shed—Meds event held in Northport collected 33 pounds of prescription medications and drugs on Tuesday.
The event, hosted by the Northport Police Department and the Northport-East Northport Drug & Alcohol Task Force, looked to help prevent pill abuse and theft by encouraging residents to empt their homes of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.
The event was held in honor of Eileen Callahan, who had an instrumental role in securing the drug collection box at Northport Police Headquarters.

The drug/medication collection box at police headquarters is in memory of her son, David Portmore, who was killed by a criminal who was high on crack cocaine.

The collection box allows residents to safely discard any unwanted drugs or medication in this box at any time, day or night, not just during special events.
