Police Log: Heroin Overdoses, $1.4K Phone Scam, Sailboat Comes Loose

Monday, Nov. 16

At 10:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a Bayview Avenue home. Police arrived at the home and determined two family members were having a verbal dispute over finances. Police said no violations of the law occurred.

Tuesday, Nov. 17

At 1:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a possibly sick raccoon on Sea Cove Road. Officers arrived to the scene and euthanized the raccoon, which was properly disposed of.

At 6:39 p.m., police responded to a Gull Cove home for a reported heroin overdose. Officers administered two doses of intranasal Narcan and performed CPR until Suffolk County Police and rescue personnel arrived.

Thursday, Nov. 19

At 1:58 p.m., police responded to a Main Street location for a man suffering from a head laceration. Northport rescue arrived to the scene and the man refused medical attention.

At 11:20 p.m., police reported that someone violated an active order of protection on Norwood Avenue.

Friday, Nov. 20

At 3:51 a.m., police reported a disturbance in which a man was unplugging the holiday lights at the gazebo in Northport Village Park. Officers arrived to the scene and spoke to the man, who told police he unplugged the lights because he was upset over the recent death of a friend. No damage occurred to the lights or the gazebo. The man agreed to leave the area and was picked up by a friend.

At 9:09 a.m., police reported a boating incident in which a sailboat broke free from its mooring. The Northport Harbor Master secured the boat to a mooring until the boat’s owner responded.

At 9:22 a.m., police reported criminal mischief in which the Christmas lights on the Village dock were damaged. Police determined an unknown person ripped off some of the lights and threw them in the harbor, causing about $250 in damages.

At 5:42 p.m., police reported a phone scam incident where a man was a victim of grand larceny on Schooner Road. Police said the man received a call from someone requesting $1,400 to be sent for his grandson’s bail in Lima, Peru. The man sent the money before he realized he was being scammed.

Saturday, Nov. 21

At 7:53 p.m., police responded to a Norwood Avenue home to aid someone not breathing and suffering from an apparent heroin overdose. Northport Fire Department first responders administered two doses of Narcan before the man became conscious and awake. Northport Rescue responded to the location and transported the victim to Huntington Hospital. Authorities collected the man’s drug paraphernalia and disposed of it at police headquarters.
