Suffolk Assisted Living Facility Resident Loses $10K In Debit Card Theft By Employees: PD

Two employees of the facility used a resident's debit card to make unauthorized purchases and were arrested, police say.

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — Two employees of an East Northport assisted living facility were arrested after they used a resident's debit card to make unauthorized purchases between May and July, Suffolk police said on Tuesday.

Marisol Garcia, 19, of Inwood, a healthcare aide at Birchwood Suites Assisted Living, at 423 Clay Pitts Road, used a resident’s debit card to make unauthorized purchases between May 13 and July 10, police said.

Tekina England, 38, of Lindenhurst, who is also a healthcare aide at the facility, used the same debit card to make a cash withdrawal from an ATM on June 1, police said.

The resident lost more than $10K, detectives said.

Garcia was arrested on Oct. 19, and England was arrested on Monday, police said.

They were each charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and were issued desk appearance tickets.
