The Nyack Board of Education voted Claudette Jimerson as its president for the third consecutive year during Tuesday's reorganization meeting.
Prior to her first term on the Board, Jimerson had taught music in the Nyack district for 34 years. She is responsible for the Jimerson Music Festival, which just celebrated its 9th anniversary.
Michael Mark has served on the Board of Education for five years, the last three years holding the position of vice president. Mark said it was his time to step down from vice president, and return to being a Board Trustee.

“Its been my pleasure to have Michael Mark as my vice president for the last two years. Just because you’re not my vice president doesn’t mean I won’t stop calling you for advice,” said Jimerson.
Mark himself took a moment to thank both the community and his fellow board members.
“I’d like to thank the public for allowing me to sign the oath book for the sixth time," Mark said. "Every member is a caring community member committed to the district, and I’m looking forward to another productive year in this very exciting district."
Upon Mark’s nomination, Karen Hughes was unanimously voted in as vice president. Hughes has worked in investment banking for twenty years, which she believes has given her a great knowledge of problem-solving strategies.
“I’m stepping into some massive shoes here,” said Hughes. “Its exciting and scary at the same time. Thank you to the Board for having faith in me. Serving here has been frustrating in parts, but extremely rewarding.”
James Marshall was re-elected as board secretary for the second time, and was thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the district yet again.
Gloria Menoutis was also re-elected as the district treasurer.
Also at the meeting, the board chose several secondary positions for Board members.
Marshall was appointed as the representative to Rockland County School Boards Association Executive Committee.
Mark was appointed as the representative to the Nyack Teachers Center Policy Board.
Leann Irvin was enthusiastic at the meeting, as she was re-appointed alternate representative to Rockland County School Boards Association Executive Committee.
“I’m truly looking forward to next year,” said Irvin.
Overall, there was a sense of delight expressed by each Board member due to the fact that the Board will consist of the same members in the upcoming year.
Board Trustee Dan Kaplan said, “Even when we disagree, the camaraderie, respect, and collegial tone is incredible.”
