Day, Jones Tour Piermont Damage From Ida
Many homes in Piermont were flooded, and some were damaged by floodwaters carrying rocks and debris.
PIERMONT, NY — Rep. Mondaire Jones and Rockland County Executive Ed Day visited Piermont Saturday to look at the damage caused by post-hurricane Ida and talk to residents and emergency responders about the storm, which dropped 6-9 inches of rain on the region.
They thanked members of the Piermont Fire Department, who responded to dozens of incidents in the village and elsewhere in Rockland.
The department's dive team was requested to Sparkill, Orangeburg, Nyack, New City, Tappan and West Nyack for vehicles in the water with victims trapped, and to Spring Valley where they searched 22 cars that were submerged to ensure no occupants were trapped inside.

Other Piermont Fire Department members responded to multiple emergencies in the village including flooding conditions, roadway hazards, trees, and wires down and unmanned boats.

After speaking with members of the department, the officials visited with a homeowner on Hudson Terrace whose backyard was flooded as a significant amount of water rushed through it during the height of the storm. Many homes in Piermont were flooded, and some were damaged by floodwaters carrying rocks and debris.
A section of the Erie Trail above Ritie Street collapsed due to the weather; the trail will be closed from First St. in Piermont to the Grand View-on-Hudson border until further notice.
While in Piermont, the congressman also presented two military medals to the family of Korean War veteran George Rubin.
